Lenny Mendonca, 57, of Half Moon Bay, has officially commenced his role as Governor Newsom’s Chief Economic and Business Advisor. He will also be serving as Director of the Office of Business and Economic Development.
Mendonca is a widely-respected economic expert, a Retired Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company and a distinguished Lecturer on Economic Inequality at the Stanford Business School.
In his new role, Mendonca will help ensure that California is expanding opportunities for current and future California businesses and growing a sustainable economy for every Californian. He will be the point of contact for business leaders in the state and modernize the state’s approach to economic development across the state’s agencies. He will also convene an external Council of Economic Advisors and work with regional leaders across sectors to harness the state’s economic diversity. Finally, he will help encourage multiple sources of capital investment to fund those plans and help streamline and focus the investment deployment where it is most needed.
He received his MBA and certificate in public management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He holds an AB, magna cum laude, in economics from Harvard College.
