Share your Mojave traffic needs at chamber meeting

January 24 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

MOJAVE —An opportunity for Mojave residents and businesses to share their views on traffic needs in the community will lead the agenda at the Mojave Chamber of Commerce’s January 24 noon meeting at the Mariah Comfort Inn.

Chamber President Doug Clipperton said representatives of the Kern Council of Governments (KernCog) will be present to gather suggestions on how transportation can be improved in Mojave and Southeast Kern.

“This will be an excellent opportunity for us to share our views with representatives of the organization that coordinates transportation funding in Kern County,” Clipperton said.

The major transportation project planned for 2019 will be construction of a new Transit Center at Mono and K Streets. The project is currently being re-bid by county officials.

Kern COG is an association of city and county governments primarily created to address regional transportation issues. Its member agencies include the County of Kern and its 11 incorporated cities.
Unincorporated cities like Mojave, Boron, and Rosamond are represented on the KernCOG board by a county supervisors.

Clipperton said the chamber “works closely with Kern COG staff to discuss traffic issues in our community.”

Spotting counterfeit money
Mission Bank Manager and Chamber Treasurer Erma Martin will also brief chamber members on tips for spotting counterfeit money, Clipperton said.

Community update
Clipperton will report on projects the chamber completed during 2018, and plans for activities in the new year.

His report will also include information on other community activities.
The Chamber’s 2019 officers will be installed at the meeting. They include President Clipperton, Vice-President Bill Deaver, Secretary Heather Benes, Treasurer Erma Martin, and Membership Director Ted Hodgkinson.

A no-host buffet lunch will be served beginning at 11:45 a.m. Mojave Chamber of Commerce meetings are open to the public.

The Mariah Comfort Inn is located at 1385 Barstow Highway next to the entrance to the Mojave Air & Space Port.
