BYD has been named the recipient of the inaugural Select LA Foreign Direct Investment Award. The award was presented on May 24th by the World Trade Center Los Angeles (WTCLA) during the annual Select LA Investment Summit.
BYD was chosen for making significant contributions to the local economy, attracting new investment to the region, creating well-paid permanent jobs, and improving the environment.
“We are proud that WTCLA recognized BYD’s positive impact on the economy in Los Angeles, especially our efforts to create good jobs with high wages, and dynamic training programs to help our employees advance in their careers,” said Stella Li, President of BYD Motors, who accepted the award on behalf of the company.
Established in 2015 in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), the Select LA Investment Summit is the first of its kind to solely promote foreign direct investment in Southern California.
“Through environmentally sustainable innovation, BYD is increasing the flow of foreign capital to our local economy. Their contracts around the nation will help create more jobs here in Los Angeles,” WTCLA President Stephen Cheung said.
As it continues to build its reputation for innovation, the award-winning Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) received the first of three BYD all-electric buses it has on order. Earlier this year CARTA received accolades in this year’s Smart 50 Awards, which recognize smart city projects from around the world. Congratulations!
BYD has delivered the first battery-electric 8TT truck to the Port of Oakland. The Class 8 truck was funded by a California Air Resources Board grant, and will be part of a feasibility study to determine whether zero-emission trucks can replace diesel trucks.
The truck will be tested for short-haul operations by major California trucking operator GSC Logistics.
“BYD is proud to celebrate the deployment of our 8TT truck in partnership with CARB and GSC Logistics to prove that clean, battery-electric transportation is reliable, sustainable and readily available for the drayage industry,” said BYD Motors President Stella Li.
